  • What is the best route from Gauteng to Clarens? 

The R59 to Vereeniging, turning off to Heilbron immediately after crossing the Vaal River and following the road towards Koppies/Heilbron to the Heilbron junction. Travel via Heilbron, Petrus Steyn and turn right at the Reitz 4-way stop to Bethlehem. Drive straight through the town and turn right onto the R714 to Clarens.

  • What can you do in Clarens?

Not too much - only white water rafting, quad biking, mountain biking, hiking, ziplining, archery, putt-putt, abseiling, fishing (wild trout waters), hunting, horse-riding, quilting, photography, art classes, 4x4 adventures, game viewing, dancing and chilling. Then there are art studios, galleries, quaint shops, great restaurants, cheeseries and craft beer brewers. And clean air and pure water and cool tattoos and spa treatments and a doggy parlour...

  • Can I travel to Clarens and inside Clarens with a normal car or do I need a 4x4?

Normal cars are fine. We have several unpaved streets, but any car can travel on them.

  • I have heard that Clarens is very cold. Is there snow?

Well, Clarens can be cold in winter and sometimes we have snow, but the days are brilliant.

  • Is there a bank/supermarket/garage/butchery in Clarens?

We don't have banks, but we do have ATM's, a superette, fuel stations and a meat market and butchery.​

  • Can we go to Afriski in a day?

Yes, it is possible. However, remember to bring your passport and be back before the border closes. (10 pm)​
